Warwick Law School PGR Conference 2025

CALL FOR PAPERS: Technology in an Age of Change: Perspectives on Finance, Business, and Beyond

Tuesday 11 February 2025

Keynote Speakers:

  • Prof. Marc Moore: Professor of Corporate and Financial Law - Chair in International Business and Commercial Law, University of Nottingham
  • Prof. Roger Brownsword: Professor of Law, King’s College London

We invite researchers to submit abstracts for our conference, Technology in an Age of Change: Perspectives on Finance, Business, and Beyond. The goal of this conference is to provide an inclusive platform for PGRs to engage with the intricate and ever-evolving intersections of technological advancements, their social impacts, and the various branches of law.

As technology reshapes industries, cultures, markets, and societal norms, it introduces new legal challenges and opportunities that require careful examination. On the one hand, the opportunities are vast: smart contracts can automate and enforce agreements, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. Integrating AI into corporate governance can streamline decision-making, while in financial law, AI can improve risk management by providing more accurate forecasts and faster response times to market changes. On the other hand, the challenges are complex (and sometimes even unforeseeable): the ever-evolving nature of cyber threats may quickly render cybersecurity laws obsolete, the use of risk-based technologies in criminal courts may reinforce bias and discrimination, and the rise of algorithmic decision-making in corporate governance may exacerbate concerns around accountability and transparency, particularly regarding shareholder rights and executive compensation.

Evaluating these intersections is crucial to ensuring laws stay relevant, protect individuals, promote innovation, and uphold justice in an increasingly digital and interconnected world. These intersections encompass a wide range of legal disciplines, reflecting their profound and multifaceted impact on contemporary legal frameworks. By exploring these dynamic relationships, we invite scholars from all areas of law to contribute to the dissemination of technology-related knowledge and engage in this crucial discourse.
