Martha Sooai is a legal scholar and gender studies researcher from East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. She is currently a Lecturer at Artha Wacana Christian University, where she teaches International Law, Human Rights Law, and Diplomatic Law. Martha holds an LL.B. in International Law from Universitas Gadjah Mada and an M.A. in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from The George Washington University, with a research focus on gender, culture, and development.

Her work sits at the intersection of law, gender equality, and Global South perspectives, with particular attention to harmful cultural practices, women’s rights, and access to justice. Martha has professional experience as an associate lawyer, and a community educator working closely with youth and grassroots organisations. She is a recipient of multiple national and international awards, including the Indonesian Government’s LPDP Scholarship for her doctoral study.
