Academic Integrity and Misconduct

Whether studying, teaching or researching, the University requires all its members to meet the standards of academic integrity. Academic integrity means “intellectual honesty”, i.e. honesty in the use of information and in formulating arguments, and giving credit where we have used others’ ideas.

Academic misconduct, which includes plagiarism and other forms of cheating, is taken seriously by the department and the University.

The two most common reasons students give for plagiarising or cheating are:

  • Time management - not having sufficient time to complete an essay or exam revision
  • Not understanding what constitutes plagiarism

You can avoid these factors by knowing your requirements and deadlines.
