Testimonials

The MA Thesis Review is a fantastic platform that brings doctoral and master’s students together. It helps master’s students clarify their thesis proposals while giving doctoral students the chance to step into the role of a reviewer, learning how to give feedback and also how to receive it. The process encourages us to think critically about what questions to ask and how to ask them in a way that adds real value. Beyond that, reading through a variety of MA thesis abstracts sparks fresh ideas and inspiration for our own writing.

I am a final-year PhD candidate and I have been a reviewer on the East Asia Study Group MA Thesis Panel for three years. Acting as a reviewer helped me getting better at giving feedback and improving the clarity of my suggestions, which has contributed greatly towards writing my PhD thesis. It has also been an invaluable learning experience as MA students work on a variety of exciting topics and there is so much to learn from them! I would definitely encourage future PhD students to take part in future editions!

Thank you for organizing such a wonderful and insightful review session!

It was incredibly helpful for my dissertation. The PhD reviewers provided me with constructive and effective suggestions that will significantly improve my work. The discussions during the session also broadened my perspective on my research topic and helped me identify new directions to explore.

I truly appreciate the effort you put into organizing this event—it created a supportive and engaging environment where we could learn from those with more advanced expertise and gain valuable feedback. It’s been an inspiring experience, and I feel more confident in refining my dissertation.

The EASG Thesis Review was thorough, enjoyable and revealing. Having leading academics read, interact and critique your abstract allowed for experienced perspectives and new dimensions to proposed dissertations. From a personal perspective, my dissertation plan has been altered in such a way that I believe I will be able to do more original research and, as importantly, work within the word count. The feedback was candid and constructive, and the reviewers seemed as enthused about my dissertation as I am. I didn't realise this thesis review was part of the Masters programme. However, it is probably one of the most important parts.
