Danniella Verity

Currently, I am a PhD candidate in Politics and International Studies. I also hold the position of Communications Officer at Democracy in Africa and Communications Lead for the Midlands East Africa Hub. Before joining PAIS at Warwick, I worked in various sectors and positions, including as an immigration advisor to East African asylum seekers, and as a Communications Officer at a non-profit organisation. I hold a Master's degree in International Development (awarded with Distinction) from the University of Birmingham, where I focused on governance and development, and conflict resolution. Prior to that I obtained a BA in Political Science with International Relations from the University of Birmingham.

Research

My research is focused on understanding political agency during periods of critical juncture, using Kenya as a case study. In a comparative study, I am analysing both the 2007/8 post-election negotiation period, and the 2017/18 post-election period in Kenya, in an attempt to understand the difference in the ways in which agency materialises. My methodology includes interviews and a unique political performance analysis. My political performance analysis aims to identify the utilisation and subversion of norms, practices and rules by political elites as they navigate critical junctures.

I am fully funded by the PAIS departmental Scholarship award.
