Profile

I joined PAIS in 2025. Prior to this, I was an Associate Lecturer and British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of St Andrews.

My research interests originate in the study of counter-terrorism in China, and have since expanded to encompass nationalism, propaganda, gender, and digital authoritarianism. Broadly, I am interested in how the Chinese state constructs and governs security, particularly through mass mobilisation, discourse, and technology. I draw on critical approaches to international relations to examine how power operates in contemporary China.

My recent work explores topics such as China's data governance and its geopolitical implications, the securitisation of everyday life for young women in urban China, and the role of state narratives in shaping national identity.
