Double Degree with American University
On the Double Master's in Politics and International Service with American University, you’ll have the chance to experience what studies are like at two of the world’s best politics and international studies departments on both sides of the Atlantic. Programme content
During academic year one with PAIS, you can follow Part I of any of our MA programmes with the ability to customise your degree through selecting the modules you find most interesting. During academic year two at SIS, you will follow the Master of International ServiceLink opens in a new window. Your Double Degree will culminate in a capstone project where you will synthesise the knowledge and methodologies learnt from both universities into one piece of unique research which counts toward both degrees. You’ll also have opportunities to find and apply for an internship or paid position with a governmental or non-governmental organisation in Washington, DC, under the Optional Practical Training scheme after you've finished the degree.

The student experience
Originally, I applied to the single-year International Development MA program at Warwick, but I decided to transfer onto the Double Degree Program as I realised that together these degrees would provide me with a solid foundation to go beyond current development practices.
My time at PAIS exceeded my expectations. Academically, the PAIS department offered a range of modules that allowed me to tailor my degree to my interests in the global social issues that affect marginalised populations, but also challenged me to think outside of the box and broaden my perspective. Outside of academics, I was involved in the Global Development Society which exposed me to many more cultures and opinions, and served to really enrich my postgraduate experience.
Similarly, my time at American University was incredibly fruitful. The modules on offer to choose from struck the right balance between theoretical and practical studies, and were taught by academic-practitioners. Located in D.C., American University is in the heart of International Affairs, and this allowed me to gain incredible insights into the current development discourse.
