Sustainable Peace and Social Inclusion in Colombia

Join WICID and Fundacion Abbacol's talk on Sustainable Peace and Social Inclusion in Colombia, with relations to Peru and Honduras

Date: Monday 29 November 2021

Time: 14:00 – 15:00 (GMT)

In 2012, Colombia started the peace process negotiation between its government and the guerrilla FARC. Since then, the country has been immersed in different challenges and changes that can be related to two Latin American countries that have faced similar conflicts: Peru and Honduras.

What are the lessons learned from the Colombian peace process?

How are these three countries related when we talk about conflict resolution, social and economic inclusion?

Conducted by Susana Lozada (Representative of Fundacion AbbaCol to the United Nations) and Carolina Lozada (Manager of Fundacion AbbaCol in the United Arabs Emirates), this talk will seek to explore these questions, and draw out what each of these three countries have experienced. The event will be Chaired by WICID’s Co-Director Briony Jones.

It will also highlight how different communities in Colombia are still living a silent peace process after the signing of the agreement, as well as the importance of social inclusion and forgiveness process within the conflict-affected population. Further, this talk will examine how post-conflict resolution can be achieved within the Colombian society for new beginnings.

Indian Debates on the International Left: Book Launch and Panel Discussion

This event will launch Indian Debates on the International Left: Selected Writings of Lajpat Rai with a panel discussion on the topic

Mon, 22 November 2021 15:00 – 17:00 GMT (online)

The Critical South Asia Group at Warwick and the Warwick Interdisciplinary Centre for International Development (WICID) invite you to this book launch and panel discussion.

Indian Debates on the International Left: Selected Writings of Lajpat Rai ed. by Shirin Rai (WICID Director) and Anand Prakash traces the Indian Left’s engagement with the international communist debates of the 1960s and 1970s, shedding new light on the fault lines within the Left as well as on its international solidarities. Lajpat Rai argued for rethinking established leftist positions, seeking inspiration in experiment and developing creative approaches for the sustainability of socialist ideas and ideals.

The panel will reflect on the critical legacies of left internationalism and its futures, as well as discuss what it means to remember and write histories of the left in India and elsewhere in the current moment.
