First Year Module Registration 2026-27
In your first year at Warwick you will have some modules that are 'core' and some that are 'optional'. Core modules are modules that you will be automatically registered for and that you have to take. Optional modules are modules that you choose to take. Please see the Course Structures webpage for a detailed breakdown.
The Department of Sociology operates a pre-registration system for all Sociology modules. This means that you are required to submit your module choices in advance.
BA Sociology
You will be allocated the following core modules:
SO122-15 Sociology of Race (Term 2)
SO128-15 History of Sociological Thought (Term 1)
SO120-15 Researching Society & Culture (Term 1)
SO130-15 Introduction to Social Analytics in Social Inequalities Research (Term 2)
SO116-15 Sociology of Gender (Term 1)
SO126-15 Class & Capitalism in the Neoliberal World (Term 2)
You will be required to choose 30 CATS worth of optional modules. Please remember your total CATS must be spread evenly across both term (60 CATS worth of modules in each term).
BA Sociology & Criminology
You will be allocated the following core modules:
SO129-15 Criminology: Theories & Concepts (Term 2)
SO128-15 History of Sociological Thought (Term 1)
SO120-15 Researching Society & Culture (Term 1)
SO130-15 Introduction to Social Analytics in Social Inequalities Research (Term 2)
SO127-15 Crime & Society (Term 1)
You will be required to choose 45 CATS worth of optional modules. Please remember your total CATS must be spread evenly across both term (60 CATS worth of modules in each term).
BA Human, Social & Political Sciences
You will be allocated the following core modules:
SO120-15 Researching Society & Culture (Term 1)
SO180-30 Key Perspectives in Human, Social and Political Sciences (Terms 1 & 2)
SO130-15 Introduction to Social Analytics in Social Inequalities Research (Term 2)
You will choose:
You will be required to choose 60 CATS worth of optional modules. Please remember your total CATS must be spread evenly across both term (60 CATS worth of modules in each term).

BA Social Sciences with Data Science
You will be allocated the following core modules:
SO120-15 Researching Society & Culture (Term 1)
SO130-15 Introduction to Social Analytics in Social Inequalities Research (Term 2)
EC107-30 Economics 1 (Terms 1 & 2)
You will be required to choose one of the following optional core modules:
EC139-15 Mathematical Techniques A (Term 1)
EC140-15 Mathematical Techniques B (Term 1)
You will be required to choose one of the following optional core modules:
EC122-15 Statistical Techniques A (Term 2)
EC124-15 Statistical Techniques B (Term 2)

Once we’ve received your selections, we’ll upload your chosen modules to the University’s module registration system for you during Welcome Week 2026 — you don’t need to do this yourself.
