Sociology Module Selection

If you are a non-Sociology student interested in Sociology modules, please see the ModulesLink opens in a new window webpages. Contact with details of the module/s you are interested in and we can advise whether or not you can take the module/s.

Instructions

Below you will be asked to select the year you will be starting in the 2025-2026 academic year (i.e. October 2025), your course, and module preference details. Each option module can only be ranked once, but core option modules can also be ranked as option modules.

Please note that this form is for students registered on the following courses:

  • BA Sociology
  • BA Sociology & Criminology
  • BA Politics & Sociology*
  • BA History & Sociology*
  • BA Law & Sociology*
  • BA Sociology & Global Sustainable Development*

* You will only be able to select Sociology modules on this form (i.e. those coded as 'SO'). Joint-honours students will need to check with their home department how module selection for non-Sociology modules will take place.

Please see the ModulesLink opens in a new window page for details of the modules on offer in 2025/26.

Please read the Module Registration FAQsLink opens in a new window.

Module Availability

The Department of Sociology will make every effort to ensure that the modules listed as available for 2025/26 will run. However, there is no guarantee that a particular optional module will run in any given year, or that it will be run by a particular academic colleague. Staff availability may change between now and October 2025 and this may mean that we are unable to run all of the modules currently listed. If you have pre-registered your interest in a particular module and we subsequently find that we are unable to run that module, we will inform you as soon as we can via email to your warwick.ac.uk email address.

Outside Options

You will be given the opportunity to specify if you intend to take an outside option in 2025/26. However, we cannot guarantee placement on any outside option modules.

In their first year, students studying BA Sociology or BA Sociology and Criminology can take up to 30 CATS of outside optional modules if they wish to. Students studying BA Sociology or BA Sociology and Criminology can take up to 30 CATS of outside option modules across their second and final year combined. You are only permitted to register for 15 or 30 CAT outside option modules, you cannot register for modules worth 6 or 12 CATS (or any other CAT value other than 15 or 30).

Students who wish to take non-Sociology outside options must consult the department offering the module and seek approval. Approval must also then be sought from your home department. If Sociology is your home department, please email with the full details of the module you want to take (module code, full title of module and the name of the department offering the module) and we will check if you can take the module.

You can then complete the webform below and give us the full module code and title of the module you wish to take.

If you are a 1st year student, please select “First” year in the Year field. If you are a 2nd year student, please select “Second” year in the Year field. If you are a 3rd year Law and Sociology student, please select “Third” year in the Year field. If you are a FINAL year Sociology student (3rd year for a 3 year course or 4th year for a 4 year course), please select “Final” in the Year field. (required)
