SO129 - Criminology: Theories and Concepts
Criminology Theories and Concepts is designed to develop students’ understanding of key criminological theories and concepts and introduce students to traditional theoretical perspectives on crime and criminality. This module is divided into four key areas of content:
- The Origins of Modern Criminology
- Sociological Criminology
- Cultures and Subcultures
- Power, Conflict and Social Control
By exploring diverse theoretical perspectives, this module will encourage students to reflect upon different assumptions and ideologies behind these perspectives. Students will also develop the necessary analytical, theoretical and critical skills to examine sociological and criminological theoretical perspectives on complex social issues.
