Below, you will find a list of the articles and videos/podcasts you will be expected to read/listen to in advance of each of the activites on the trip. We hope you enjoy them!

Monday, March 10th
For the morning walking tour, led by Dr. Maria do Mar Pereira:
- Gray, Lila Ellen (2011) "Fado’s City", Anthropology and Humanism, 36 (2): 141-163. (This was the reading distributed in the study trip meeting. If you weren't at the meeting, you can pick up a hard copy of this from outside Maria's office.)
- Additional optional reading (especially useful for those going on the evening trip to a fado house): Gray, Lila Ellen (2007) "Memories of Empire, Mythologies of the Soul: Fado Performance and the Shaping of Saudade", Ethnomusicology, 51 (1): 106-130.
- this short documentary on fado in Alfama (this was shown at the study trip meeting on Thursday, February 27th)

For the afternoon lecture on the MYPLACE project, led by Dr. Nuno de Almeida Alves and Dr. David Cairns:
- this documentary from the MYPLACE project (this was the documentary shown at the screening on Thursday, February 27th)
- this overview of statistical facts on Portugal
