Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Midlands4Cities DTP

The Midlands4Cities DTP is funding and training the next generation of highly skilled arts and humanities researchers through PhD Scholarships. Led by the University of Nottingham, our consortium of eight partners are present in the four cities of Nottingham, Birmingham, Leicester and Coventry.

Fee status: Home/International

Value: M4C Scholarships provide 3.5 years of UKRI level maintenance grant, fees and enhanced support for professional development training to successful doctoral candidates.

Deadline: 12th January 2022 (noon UK Time) - Applications for 2022/2023 entry scholarships are now OPEN.

How to Apply: There are several parts to the application process which take time and require departmental and academic staff taking action, you should not leave your application until the last minutes. For full details on how to apply, please go the Midlands4Cities website.

Chancellor's International Scholarships

Eligibility: overseas fee status PhD applicants and first year PhD students from all academic departments.

Value: full payment of academic fees and a UKRI level stipend for 3.5 years, a Research Training and Support Grant (RTSG)

Deadline: The Sociology department deadline for applicants to submit their PhD admission application is Tuesday 11th January 2022 which is before the central university deadline of 13th January 2022 (23:59 GMT) for creating your course application form and 25th January 2022, 23:59 for all supporting documents (references and transcripts) No late applications will be accepted.

In order to apply for the Chancellor’s International Scholarships you must first apply for PhD admission, by the Sociology department deadline of 11th January which is earlier than the central university deadline of 13th January 2022. Once you have submitted your admissions application you will then receive an automated e-mail giving you your 7 digit student ID number and instructions on registering your ITS applicant account, which you must complete. This can take up to 48 hours to come through. This username and password can then be used to apply for the scholarships. You do not need to have received an offer of study by the scholarship application deadline, just to have applied for admission.

Two supervisors are required to support your PhD application and to be considered for the scholarship competition. It is strongly recommended that you contact potential supervisors before submitting an application. Details of the research interests of academic members of staff can be found on the department 'Our People' pages. If you cannot find a suitable potential supervisor, we would recommend that you send a short summary of your research interest to the socphdresource.ac.uk email address asking for it to be circulated around the department for consideration by academic staff.

For 2022/2023 entry there will be up to 42 Chancellor's International Scholarships available to be awarded to the most outstanding Overseas applicants.

China Scholarship Council (CSC) / University of Warwick Scholarships

The University is delighted to announce the China Scholarships Council (CSC) / University of Warwick Scholarships. For entry in Autumn 2022, there will be 25 scholarships available to students who meet the CSC criteria applying to any PhD discipline.

Eligibility: PhD applicants and first year PhD students who meet the CSC critieria

Value: full payment of academic fees by the University, a 4 year maintenance stipend and return international airfair between the UK and China from CSC.

Deadline: 1 February 2022, 23.59 GMT

Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) Midlands Graduate School Publish

Led by Warwick, the Midlands Graduate School is an ESRC-funded DTP with five other regional partners - the Universities of Aston, Birmingham, Leicester, Loughborough and Nottingham - which supports the next generation of social science researchers. The Midlands Graduate School offers 17 different training pathways that span various social science disciplines.

Eligibility: 1+3 (MA+PhD) applicants in Social Sciences of any fee status. A Masters is not a prerequisite for studying at the Midlands Graduate School DTP. Students are able to apply directly from undergraduate programmes and they ring-fence a number of studentship awards for students applying straight from an undergraduate degree. A range of training programmes is available based on an assessment of the applicant’s prior learning and training needs, including a 1+3 award option with a Masters continuing onto PhD study.

Value: full payment of academic fees and a UKRI level stipend for 4 years, enhanced support for professional development training to successful doctoral candidates.

Deadline: The Sociology department deadline for applicants to submit their admissions application is Tuesday 11th January 2022 (ESRC have a deadline of 12th January 2022 for the PhD application but the Sociology deadline is what you need to follow. The deadline for completing the ESRC application form is Tuesday 18th January 2022. No late applications will be accepted.

EUTOPIA PhD Scholarships

Co-tutelle PhD Scholarships 2022

In partnership with Vrije Universiteit Brussel, CY Cergy Paris University and the University of Ljubljana, 18 EUTOPIA PhD scholarships are available to enable promising researchers to be jointly supervised in order to complete their PhD. It is expected to lead to high-quality research projects with global impact, providing exciting research opportunities for PhD or doctoral candidates.

Eligibility: PhD applicants from all academic departments

Value: full payment of academic fees and a maintenance stipend for 3 to 4 years (depending on the length of doctoral studies in the partner universities), additional support for reasonable travel and research expenses

International Scholarships

There are a number of scholarships schemes available for international students, both internal and external to the University. For further information please consult their webpage.

Monash Warwick Alliance Joint PhD Scholarships (Warwick)

The Monash Warwick Alliance Scholarships (Warwick) are open to all students applying to Warwick for the Alliance Joint PhD. For 2022/23 entry there will be up to 3 scholarships available to be awarded to the most outstanding PhD applicants.

Value: A maintenance stipend for 3.5 years. This will be paid in line with UKRI rates for the years spent at Warwick ( provisionally £15,609 for full time award holders in 2022/23 but expected to be confirmed in February 2022), and in line with Australian government rates for the year spent at Monash.A travel allowance of £2,000 during the lifetime of the PhD.

Eligibility: Applications are welcome from students of any nationality applying to Warwick for the Alliance Joint PhD. Only new students who will begin their PhD in Autumn 2022 are eligible.

Deadline: Thursday 20th January 2022, 23.59 GMT.

Postgraduate Loan Scheme-Doctoral Courses

Students applying for a PhD can apply for a loan as a contribution towards course and living costs.

Eligibility: home fees PhD applicants who meet the criteria stated at GOV.UK

Value: £27,265 (2021 entry)

Warwick Postgraduate Sanctuary Scholarships

For 2021/22 we will offer up to two fully funded scholarships for postgraduate research students, and up to three fully funded scholarships for postgraduate taught students. These scholarships are offered as part of the Warwick Sanctuary Scholarships at the University of Warwick.

Postgraduate Research Sanctuary Scholarship

Eligibility: PhD applicants with any fee status in any research area with the appropriate refugee, asylum seeker or humanitarian protection status granted by the UK government, or who are academics supported by the Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA).

Value: full payment of academic fees and a UKRI level stipend for 4 years, a Research Training and Support Grant (RTSG)
