Project overview

This project interrogates representations of Iranian-Americans in popular American entertainment media, and the ways in which they shape the contours of belonging and citizenship for people of Iranian descent and immigrants associated with Muslim culture in the West. Drawing from sociological theories of representation, belonging, citizenship and critical resistance, I engage a cross-disciplinary approach of cultural analysis of the law, exploring the extent to which these representations re-circulate in legal culture to inform contemporary law, culminating in the Muslim Ban of the Trump administration.
