EUTOPIA is delighted to compliment five of its outstanding researchers who have been awarded the European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept grants. The ERC Proof of Concept grants are awarded to help researchers explore the commercial and societal innovation potential of their ERC-funded research. These grants provide €150,000 for each project to bridge the gap between early-phase findings and their practical application. This funding hopes to encourage scientific results into tangible innovations that benefit industry and society.

As we celebrate the anniversary of the EUTOPIA Alliance, let's take a moment to reflect on the transformative journey of the past five years. EUTOPIA has become a symbol of what is achievable when universities collaborate across borders to foster a more interconnected, inclusive, and sustainable academic environment.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Stuart Croft, Vice-Chair of EUTOPIA and President of the University of Warwick, will serve as Interim Chair of the Board of Presidents until July 2025, while Professor Daniel David is Romania’s Minister of National Education and Research. Ca’ Foscari University of Venice has recently assigned a grant of € 26,500 for a research project in collaboration with the University of Warwick, led by Professors Luciano Pezzolo (Ca’ Foscari, Department of History) and Luca Molà (Warwick, Department of History and Director of the Warwick Venice Centre).

In 2024 Warwick FTV Studies introduced an innovative on-site undergraduate module based in Venice offering students the chance to engage with the past of Venice’s long screen history, today’s Venice Film Festival and the future water cultures of the wider lagoon.

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the House of Lords for the International Student Celebration event hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) to recognize the impact of international students on the UK community. It was an unbelievable experience, and I’m excited to share all about it and how I ended up there through this blog.

Educators from the University of Warwick and Monash University have collaborated to develop an online Quality Improvement in Healthcare course, designed to improve access to quality healthcare around the world.  

This week is one of my favourites in the year. It's a chance to bring together academics, students, researchers and stakeholders from across to Europe and beyond for our bi-annual EUTOPIA Week. Hosted by EUTOPIA partner CY Cergy Paris University, the theme for this EUTOPIA week is innovation and collaboration – providing a platform to showcase the achievements of the alliance and to set the stage for future initiatives.

Last week Yulia Timofeeva, Kathryn Hunger and Ayse Sunar from the Department of Computer Science at Warwick joined members of The Guild to exchange with peers, experts and policymakers on the fast-changing field of artificial intelligence (AI) in The Guilds members-only event “AI in European universities: Opportunities and challenges”. Supported by Université Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) and Université Paris Cité, they discussed the impact of AI in research and educational activities at the inspiring PariSanté Campus.
