Network and Service Outages – Saturday 27 March & Saturday 10 April

As part of the Network Replacement Project (NRP), there is a requirement to move all the equipment within the University’s Data Centres onto the new network. While this work is taking place all IT systems will be unavailable.

The work will be taking place between 08:00 and 16:00 on both days.

As with all work of this nature, we have tried to minimise disruption by consulting with stakeholders from across the University and these dates have been selected as the “least bad”. While we appreciate the inconvenience this will cause, this work is unavoidable and is necessary as part of the migration to the new network.  Work already completed on the Westwood Campus indicates that the work will be completed within the outage window.

If you have any concerns about the timing of this work, please contact Neil Hunt at n dot hunt at warwick dot ac dot uk or telephone on extension 50195.

For more information please look at the NRP web pages

Connecting Equipment to Campus Network

With the start of term upon us, we are keen to ensure there is no unintended disruption to the campus network as a result of connecting an unknown device. For example machines running DHCP, DNS etc.  If you are unsure, or have any questions, about connecting devices to the network, please contact the IT Services Helpdesk on 73737 or email helpdesk at warwick dot ac dot uk

Potential Network Disruption - 07:45 on Thursday 24 September

There is a requirement to re-start a number of switches on the University’s core network at this time. This may cause a very brief (under a minute) disruption to network traffic, but should not have any significant impact.

New University Network

IT Services has embarked on a project to redesign and replace the University’s network over the next 18 months. The new network will provide greater reliability and resilience, as well as additional capacity to meet the University’s future needs. Over the coming months, we will be involving your department in our plans for the implementation. We will be working to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum.

This activity will be carried out under the University’s long-term strategic partnership with Cisco Systems Inc. For more information, please see the project web pages.

We're making a change to the wireless network

Currently all wireless access points are configured to accept requests from 802.11 b&g devices. However, if a single “b” device connects, it slows down the entire access point to “b” speeds.  As monitoring of the network has revealed that there is only a very small number of ‘b’ devices connecting, we will be configuring access points to 802.11g only. If you encounter any problems connecting to the wireless network, please contact the ITS Helpdesk.
