Professional Development- Rob's story.

In in order to support Warwick Technicians, the University has a professional Registration fund which enables technicians to become members of recognised professional bodies by paying the first years membership for them. Warwick Technician Rob Eason- (Technical support manager) highlights the benefit to him when the question was asked: How helpful is the PRF to your career progression?

In my role as a Technical Support Manager at Warwick I am able to locally advise on H&S matters. Due to past development opportunities I possessed the necessary qualification to apply for Tech IOSH status. However, I needed to join IOSH initially as an associate member and fulfil the professional development criteria to apply for the upgrade. My successful application to the PRF enabled me to do this. After a short period of professional development portfolio work I applied and was successful in obtaining Tech IOSH, a recognised professional registration category in the science and technical field.

Tech IOSH attainment gives others in H&S roles confidence that my knowledge and skills are of a certain defined professional standard. It also allows me to show to end users and colleagues that my H&S qualifications, experience and continuous development are professionally recognised. This increases my value to the University in this area.

I wholeheartedly encourage others to apply to the PRF as skills should be recognised. This can only improve self and end user confidence in you and your role.

We thank Rob for taking the time to encourage other Warwick Technicians, Further information on the PRF fund can be found on this link: PRF Fund
