Heating
The heating in university accommodation is controlled centrally and is designed to keep rooms at a comfortable temperature of around 19°C to 21°C.
How does the heating work?
Our heating system automatically adjusts based on the weather outside.
During the warmer months, the heating in residences is switched off, as it isn't needed.
The heating will only come on when the average outdoor temperature remains below 15°C for 48 hours.
Once the heating is on, the temperature of your radiator will change depending on how cold it is outside. On warmer days, radiators may feel cooler because less heat is needed. As the weather gets colder, the radiators will become hotter to help keep your accommodation comfortable.
Most rooms have a numbered control valve on the radiator, allowing you to adjust the temperature to suit your preference.
Heating Schedule
When the outside temperature triggers the heating to come on, it operates on a schedule throughout the week.
Monday - Friday
07:30 - 10:00 and 15:00 - 23:00
Saturday and Sunday
07:30 - 14:00 and 16:00 - 23:00
When should you report a problem?
You should only report a heating issue if:

The weather outside is consistently cold, and the heating in your flat is not coming on
- The heating is scheduled to be on
- Other radiators in the flat are warm
- Your radiator is completely cold to the touch
