Why are we updating our charges?

Why are we updating our charges?

We are committed to making the University campus accessible and meeting our environmental obligations. In making the changes to our parking charges, we are seeking to balance these commitments.

To help us reduce our emissions, and achieve our carbon reduction goals, the University has announced changes to parking tariffs for car parking on the campus following a 3-year freeze for general user tariffs and 18 months since the introduction of the Staff Pay As You Use system.

Car parking revenue is directly reinvested into building, improving and maintaining car parking as well as transport infrastructure investments, to improve the experience for all. This includes previous investments such as the bus interchange as well as the Kirby Corner, Lynchgate & Cryfield Village car parks. We are continuing to make investments to support active and sustainable transport options.

These tariff changes can help directly discourage single user car journeys and supports us to continue to invest in sustainable transport on and to campus, including cycling provision, bus subsidies and other sustainable transport initiatives.

We have also invested in schemes such as car-club, cycle hire provision, additional cycle parking, new cycle to work scheme, subsidised bus routes and infrastructure changes on campus to support active travel. Find out more about the current initiativesLink opens in a new window.
