21/22 Intern
Hi, I'm Margot (she/her) and I was a student at Warwick between 2019-2022 and interned with the team over summer 21/22.
Hi! I’m Margot and I completed the Internship with the Community Values Education Programme (CVEP) Team under the Dean of Students’ Office in the summer of 21/22. I learnt of the internship opportunity when attending the Active Bystander Course in Term 3, and having been a part of the executive team of a sports club and being a part of female-focused societies, I wanted to apply myself to a student community focused role.
My first day of the internship started with a team lunch, and there could have been no better way to start. The entire team was welcoming, supportive, and happy to chat and answer any and all questions – no matter how small!
Over the 6 weeks, my manager gave me the flexibility to be involved in projects that suited my interests:
- I attended an Infographics seminar, which I was able to apply to building a webpage for a post-course resources webpage from the Active Bystander Workshops,
- I was able to offer my insight on the Maskulinities Project, which has been developed following the Sexism in Sport issue the SU has tackled this year, and
- I worked on ideas, including 22/23 welcome week plans, for the Say My Name campaign led by Dr Jane Bryan.
My favourite day was attending a visit from Bailey Webb from Monash University who is working on a parallel Masculinities project tailored to students in Australia, who shared ideas with the CVEP team, SU officers and Report & Support team.
I was also given the opportunity to work on the Positive Digital Practice project for the Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) team, creating resources to encourage digital literacy and confidence for mature students within Warwick and Positive Digital Practices partnered universities. Having had such a diverse experience allowed me to be part of the support offered to a vast range of students.
The internship has also been insightful career experience; keeping up with deadlines, learning to prioritise tasks, and staying on top of communication on the projects you’re working on is good practice for any future career. Meeting other student interns also helps you build a sense of workplace community and gives you great practice for future professional relationships!
Overall, the past 6 weeks have been brilliantly educational and fulfilling and I hope you will consider applying. Best of luck!
