Your Feedback Matters

Your feedback matters…

Every month we receive feedback from the campus community via our satisfaction surveys, completed in our cafes via tablets and QR codes and every month we review these and make changes to improve things where we can. You can read below some examples of the key themes we have heard through these surveys, and what we have done to try and address them.

With Eatwise rolling out across campus, you’ve noticed a range of cheaper and healthier options are now available and they’re widely appreciated, in particular our £2.99 hot meals such as the homemade Dahl and chapati, Popcorn Cauliflower and Macaroni Cheese

We’re so pleased that you’re enjoying these new dishes, our aim has been to provide the campus community with hot lunch options that are under £3 that are nutritious, hearty and comforting – and made fresh on campus!

Alternative milks are free of charge and you are very pleased that this is the case

We’re really pleased that this is appreciated amongst our community, we want our hot drinks range to be as accessible as possible, we plan to keep alternative milks free of charge.

The new oat milk we switched to recently was NOT a hit!

We changed our oat milk to a gluten free version back in Term 1 25/26, to remove an allergen from the coffee offering but we heard you, the quality was not the best! We've since changed back to the original brand we were using. We would still like to move a gluten free option, we’re in the process of looking for something out there that is the equivalent quality of our current oat milk and gluten free too.

The staff are so friendly and make us feel really welcome

We think so too! And we’re so happy to hear from you about the great work they’re doing. When staff are regularly praised in our customer survey, we recognise and celebrate them in our Star of the Month awards.

Soup in Eatwise cafes comes with one slice of bread, charging 50p for an extra slice is expensive and not well communicated

We source a high-quality sourdough that has no nasties in it, tastes fabulous and keeps you fuller for longer. Because of this, it costs us more to buy, hence why we charge for an extra slice (the first slice being included in the price of the soup at £2.99). We agree though that we haven’t communicated the extra cost well, so we will be introducing some signage next to the soup serving spaces in our cafes to help make it clear from the outset.

The Sandwich range has too much white bread and not enough brown

We hear you, we're looking at redistributing sandwich fillings evenly between brown and white bread. We’re also working on some new wraps and baguettes for Term 3 25/26 and will ensure that they feature some healthier bread options.

Some of your meals are priced too highly

We do our best to price our dishes as low as possible whilst also seeking to cover our costs and make the small profit that is required of us. Our sandwich range (freshly made on campus) starts from £1.99. Our hot food range starts from £2.99, this includes products like homemade Soup and sourdough bread, Dahl and chapati, Popcorn Cauliflower, Macaroni Cheese, Beef Burger, Chicken Wings and Jacket Potato with Beans. We try to ensure that dishes at this lower range also have options to 'add' items or toppings for a bit more money, to allow for variety where people can afford to spend a little more. We want to offer a range of meals for all budgets and tastes, so there will be some dishes that are priced at £7.99 or £8.99 but these are in the minority.

In the café I go to the food is always the same

In order to minimise food waste and work as efficiently as possible, we work to a menu rotation of two weeks for each of our outlets that serve hot food, with dishes changing daily across a 2-week period. What you might find, is if you always come to campus on the same day each week, you'll tend to the see the same dishes on the menu on that day. Where possible, we recommend that you visit some of our other outlets across campus, as we're working to offer a diverse range of cuisines and dishes across out campus outlets. Why not visit District in WBS for some pan-Asian inspired food one week, then pop into Café Library for some comforting Macaroni cheese with your choice of toppings the next week? You can check out all the options on campus here.

Why do we have to pay for sauce sachets?

The reason we're charging for sachets is we tend to find that people take more than they need (and once they have been taken, even if unopened, we have to put them in the bin for food safety reasons) they are also bad for the environment and go straight to landfill, creating a lot of waste. So we're looking into a range of dispensed sauces, to allow customers to serve themselves (like you'll have seen in some major fast food chains), we will then be able to remove the charge.

The vegan sausages are dry

We’ve taken a look and agree that the vegan sausages dry out quickly when hot-held on our food counters, we’re working on sourcing a new vegan sausage to rectify this. There’s nothing worse than a disappointing sausage.
