Tell us a bit about your experience in hospitality and how you came to work at the University
I started working here 13 years ago on the food counter in Library as a Unitemp after being referred by a friend. At the time, I saw it as a stopgap while my children were young, but I quickly grew to love the role and the people. Thirteen years later, I’m still here and grateful for the journey.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Most of my free time is spent with my three children. We love being outside, exploring new spots, and keeping busy with active things.
What are you most excited about in your new role?
I’m looking forward to tackling new challenges, strengthening the team, and finding solutions that help the business succeed whilst making sure our customers are getting the best out of us.
Favourite Dish
The mac 'n' cheese, because you can tailor it to add whatever toppings you fancy most that day, it’s also delicious and filling (why not come and try 🙂)

Tell us a bit about your experience in hospitality and how you came to work at the University
My passion for delivering excellence in customer service and a true love of food steered me to begin my career in the hospitality industry in Paris, many moons ago! I have worked in various hotels here in England as operations manager and led food and beverage departments for many years. Ready for a new challenge outside of hotels but still within food and beverage, I jumped at the opportunity to come and work for Warwick Food Group at the University of Warwick.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love football (am a HUGE Arsenal fan!) and tennis. I also enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring the English countryside with my family.
What are you most excited about in your new role?
I am excited to be working with a great team and am truly passionate about our mission here at Warwick Food Group... “mindful food for thriving minds”. I am committed to ensuring we offer fresh, healthy food choices, use nutritious ingredients and champion seasonal produce.
Favourite Dish
My favourite dish at Nexus is the Chicken Gyros with slaw and skin on fries. It’s packed with flavour and reminds me of holidays in Greece. The grilled cheese in Red Rocket is another firm favourite of mine.
Sophie Bywater
District
Sophie Bywater is the new manager of District in WBS, she also manages the Eatwise street food van and Spud. Sophie has been part of the food group community for over 10 years. She is excited to be leading the team at District as part of her new role.
Tell us a bit about your experience in hospitality and how you came to work at the University
I have worked in hospitality since I was 17, I started as a waitress/barmaid in a pub and then came to the university in 2015 as a Unitemp catering assistant within ‘Warwick Retail’ (now known as Warwick Food Group) and have since worked my way up all the roles to F&B manager.Until recently I was the manager of Eatwise Test Kitchen at University House.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy going to music concerts and spending quality time with my friends and family. I also make time each week for reformer Pilates, it’s my favourite way to unwind and reset.
What are you most excited about in your new role?
Leading a team that delivers exceptional experiences and building a strong team culture where staff feel supported and perform at their best and take pride in what they do.
Favourite Dish
Red Thai curry sauce with char sui skewers, this is full of flavour, a little bit spicy and absolutely delicious!

Tell us a bit about your experience in hospitality and how you came to work at the University
I started working at the University 13 years ago with Estates as a cleaner. Over time, I naturally moved towards Warwick Food Group as I’m a real people person and enjoy interacting with customers every day. Serving food and drinks and knowing it can make someone’s day a little better is one of the best parts of my job.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy planning weekend getaways, travelling, meeting friends, and reading. One of the best books I’ve read recently is Lessons in Chemistry, although I’m always open to recommendations! I also love being creative with my daughter, we spend time painting, colouring, crafting, and even knitting together.
Favourite Dish
My favourite dish at Café Gibbet Hill is the popcorn cauliflower. I love the mix of crunchiness, spice, and sauce; and it's just £2.99, which makes it even better.
