Recent Changes to the University Calendar
Honorary Degrees
In October 2009, the Privy Council approved changes to the University Statutes to transfer awarding power for Honorary Degrees from the Council to the Senate.
The Council approved at its meeting held on 14 October 2010 the associated revisions to Ordinance 14 governing the Honorary Degrees Committee, on the recommendation of the Senate.
Revisions to Ordinance 7 and 10
At its meeting held on 14 October, the Council, on the recommendation of the Senate, approved for a second time amendments to Ordinance 7 on Boards of the Faculties and Ordinance 10 on departments.
The revisions established the Warwick Manufacturing Group as an academic department within the Faculty of Science and to formalise representation from the School of Life Sciences on the Board of the Faculty of Science.
Revisions to Governing Instruments Following Students' Union Legal Status Change
A number of revisions were required to the University's governing instruments to reflect the recent change in legal status of the Students' Union. Within the governing instruments, the constitution of the Students' Union is now referred to as the Memorandum and Articles of Association.
Amendments were made to Statues 14, 16, 21 and Ordinance 23 following approval of the Council at its meeting held on 14 July 2010. Amendments to the statues are pending approval of the Privy Council and are marked accordingly within the Calendar.
Ordinance 13 - Award of Masters in Teaching and Learning
The University may now confer the award of Masters in Teaching and Learning (MTL) and this qualification has been included in the list of University Degrees and Diplomas set out in Ordinance 13.
The Council approved this revision at its meeting held on 14 July 2010.
Regulations 9, 15, 22 and 30 and Ordinances 7 and 10 - Employment Legislation
Further to the revisions made to University regulations (see below), the Council approved revisions to Ordinances 7 and 10 at its meeting held on 14 July 2010.
Folllowing the approval of the Senate (March 2010) and the Council (May 2010), amendments have been made to:
Regulation 9 governing the constitution of Boards of Examiners;
Regulation 15 governing Higher Doctorates;
Regulation 22 – Library Regulations;
Regulation 30 governing the procedure for appointment of Heads of Joint Schools in the Faculties of Arts & Social Sciences
in order to remove references to membership conditional on full-time employment in line with HR legislation.
