Recent Changes to the University Calendar
Revisions to Regulation 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, 11, 39 and 40
At its meeting on 22 November 2017 the Council approved amendments to the following Regulations:
- Regulation 1 on Departmental Management Structures
- Regulation 3 on Committee Elections - Student Members
- Regulation 6 on Admission to the University
- Regulation 8 on Regulations for First Degrees
- Regulation 9 on Constitutions of Boards of Examiners
- Regulation 11 on Procedure to be Adopted in the Event of Suspected Cheating in a University Test
- Regulation 39 on Undergraduate Non-Degree Courses
- Regulation 40 on Collaborative Courses
Rationale: To reflect the disestablishment of the Board of Undergraduate Studies and the merger of the Undergraduate and Graduate Studies Committees of the Boards of the Faculties to form Faculty Education Committees. Additionally, to remove gendered terminology and redundant references to sub-faculties.
Revisions to Regulation 20
At its meeting on 22 November 2017 the Council approved amendments to Regulation 20 on Consideration of Honorary Graduands and Honorary Graduates.
Rationale: The amendments reflect the updated membership of the Honorary Degrees Committee for the 2017-18 academic year.
Revisions to Regulation 42
At its meeting on 18 October 2017 the Council approved amendments to Regulation 42 on Governing Academic Appeals.
Rationale: To take account of the fact that not all Appeals Committee panels have a Chair.
Revisions to Regulations 23 and 27
Chair’s action was taken on 29 September 2017 to confirm changes to Regulation 23 on Student Disciplinary Offences and Regulation 27 on On-Campus Residential Accommodation Regulations.
Rationale: To provide greater clarity on certain aspects of the Regulations, resolve issues that have been identified in the operation of these Regulations and update the nomenclature used within the University. In addition, more detailed examples of types of behaviour deemed to be disciplinary offences have been incorporated in line with guidance from Universities UK.
Revisions to Regulations 8.13 and 36
Chair's action was taken on 7 September 2017 to confirm proposed changes to Regulation 8.1: Regulations for the Part-time Degree of BEng in Applied Engineering.
Rationale: To allow students on the Applied Engineering Programme to take re-sit assessments in-year.
Chair's action was taken on 23 August 2017 to confirm proposed changes to Regulation 36: Student Registration, Attendance and Progress.
Rationale: To more fully reflect the consequences of a student’s failure to enrol at the University, and to outline the responsibilities of the University and its students in relation to sponsorship under Tier 4, to protect the interests of both parties.
