Revisions to Ordinance 3, 4 and 5

On 18 November 2020, the Council approved amendments to the following University Ordinances, with changes taking immediate effect.

  • Ordinance 3.5 (The Pro Vice-Chancellors)

Rationale: Change of Status

  • Ordinance 4.1 (Nominations Committee)

Rationale: To reflect the updated Terms of Reference

  • Ordinance 4.2 (Appointed Members of Council)

Rationale: Appointment of Pro Vice-Chancellor no longer needed due to change of status.

  • Ordinance 4.9 (Committees of the Council)

Rationale: Updated name of Equality and Diversity Committee to Social Inclusion Committee

  • Ordinance 5.3 (Committees of the Senate)

Rationale:Updated name of Equality and Diversity Committee to Social Inclusion Committee and removed the Senate Steering Committee

Revisions to Regulation 41

The delegated authority to invoke Regulation 41 has changed from the Steering Committee to the University Executive Board (UEB), when a quorate meeting of the Senate cannot be held (Senate minute 081b-S100620). On 9 November 2020, the Vice-Chancellor took Chair’s action on behalf of the Senate to approve amendments to Regulation 41, to reflect the 10 June 2020 Senate decision in the University Calendar.

Revisions to the Standing Orders of the Assembly

Revisions to the Standing Orders of the Assembly were last approved through an online vote by Assembly members which took place from Monday, 2 November to Friday, 6 November 2020. Changes took effect from Monday, 9 November 2020.

Revisions to Regulation 6.3

On 11 August 2020, the Chair of Senate approved amendments to Regulation 6.3 by Chair's action, with changes taking effect immediately.

  • Regulation 6 (Regulations for Admissions to the University)

Rationale: Revisions to this regulation to include a direct reference to refusal to admit due to unwelcome behaviour (in person or online). The amendments clarify for potential students (on application or an existing offer holder, i.e before enrolment) the University's expectations on their behaviour.

Revisions to Regulation 8.10

On 15 July 2020, the Chair of Senate approved amendments to Regulation 8.10 by Chair's action, with changes taking effect immediately.

  • Regulation 8.10 (Regulations for the Degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)

Rationale: Revisions to this regulation in respect of the MBChB that are neccessary to support exam board decision making.
