Recent Changes to the University Calendar
Updates to Regulation 29
On 7 November 2024 the Senate approved updates to Regulation 29: Code of Practice relating to Freedom of Speech, Academic Freedom and the prevention of individuals from being drawn into terrorism consequent to HM Government suspending the implementation of the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act 2023, with immediate effect.
These changes will be noted by the University Executive Board on 11 November 2024 and by the Council on 22 November 2024.
Updates to Regulation 42
On 26 June 2024 the Senate approved minor updates to Regulation 42: Governing Academic Appeals to harmonise the academic appeals process for all taught students entering the University from the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
These changes were noted by the Council on 10 July 2024 and took effect from the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
Revisions to Regulation 8.10
On 26 June 2024 the Senate approved revisions to to Regulation 8.10: Regulations for the Degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and for the Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMedSci) to ensure Boards of Examiners can receive results of the first diet of the United Kingdom Medical Licensing Assessment and apply decisions in line with national policy, General Medical Council requirements and to ensure ongoing compliance. Minor updates to allow for unforeseen changes to assessment delivery, remove duplicate wording, and better align with University terminology were also made.
These changes were noted by the Council on 10 July 2024 and took effect from the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
Updates to Regulation 43
On 17 April 2024 the Senate approved minor updates to Regulation 43: Governing Undergraduate Degree Apprenticeships to align with changes to the Right to Remedy Failure Policy to permit Boards of Examiners to take place at appropriate times during the academic year and to make recommendations for reassessment, continuation, or withdrawal.
These changes were noted by the Council on 22 May 2024 and took effect from the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
Revisions to Regulation 12
On 17 April 2024 the Senate approved amendments to Regulation 12: Procedure to be adopted in the Event of Absence for Medical Reasons from a University Examination in relation to to aegrotat awards, limits on missing credit for consideration under mitigating circumstances and posthumous awards.
These changes were noted by the Council on 22 May 2024 and took effect from the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
