Terms of Reference
(a) To work with the Centre for Lifelong Learning to advise the Senate and the Council on policy for the development of lifelong learning and the wider implications of that strategy for the University's mission.
(b) To initiate policy and advise on the management of Foundation Degree, Part-time Undergraduate Degree and 2+2 Degree courses.
(c) To consider from a lifelong learning perspective proposals for new Foundation Degree, Part-time Undergraduate Degree and 2+2 Degree courses and new Open Studies Certificates and Diplomas, it being noted that academic approval for new courses is the responsibility of the Undergraduate Studies Committee/Sub-Faculty of the appropriate Faculty Board(s).
(d) To make proposals for the introduction of new courses of study to first degree level in the field of lifelong learning for consideration by the appropriate academic departments/centres, the Undergraduate Studies Committee/Sub-Faculty of the appropriate Faculty Board(s), the Academic Quality and Standards Committee and the Senate.
(e) To recommend to the Senate and the Council the policies governing Open Studies programmes and their promotion.
(f) To recommend annual fees for participants on Open Studies programmes.
(g) To recommend to the Senate Boards of Examiners for the Foundation Degrees, Part-time Undergraduate Degrees, 2+2 Degrees and Open Studies Certificates.
(h) To advise the Centre for Lifelong Learning on its research strategy.
(i) To consider reports on activities contained within the University's Widening Participation Strategy.
(j) To consider updates to the University's Widening Participation Strategy for recommendation to the Senate.
Reporting Structure
The Board of Lifelong Learning reports to the Senate, directly and via the Academic Quality and Standards Committee.
The Board receives reports from the Partnership Programmes Sub-Committee.
