The last meeting of the University Council for this academic year took place last week. On Tuesday afternoon, a briefing showcased the many facets of innovation at Warwick with updates on the work and future opportunities of the University of Warwick Science Park, Warwick Manufacturing Group and the methodology for applying innovation through the work of the Warwick Innovation District, including reflections from two incredibly inspiring student innovators.

The main item at the Council meeting on Wednesday morning was the University Draft Financial Plan for 2026 and proposed budgetary envelopes for 2026/27. Discussion was robust and thorough, with members seeking assurance around projections and assumptions within the Plan. Council subsequently approved release of funds to progress the STEM Connect programme.

Council welcomed positive news on the University’s QS rankings position and NSS 2026 results, with the continued focus on excellence a crucial part in Warwick’s ongoing and future success, operating within challenging sector conditions.

Also discussed were the regular Council committee updates, and evaluation reports on the University’s 60th Anniversary Programme of events and ongoing philanthropic campaign.
