First Aid Awareness Sessions

First Aid Awareness Sessions are being offered on a trial basis for current First aiders at the University of Warwick to refresh their skills and knowledge between the standard 3 year qualification expiry period.

Training sessions will be taking place face to face on campus on 11th, 12th and 13th December 2023.

(*ALL sessions are now full)

Three different training sessions will be running; you can book onto more than one session.

The contents and timings of each session can be seen below:

MODULE 1: INTRODUCTION:
▪ Introductions
▪ What is first aid?
MODULE 2: ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FIRST AIDER:
▪ legislation
▪ assigning roles at scene survey-Practical
▪ contacting the emergency services-Practical
▪ accident reporting-Practical
MODULE 3: PRIMARY SURVEY
▪ PRACTICAL: Defibrillator practical, L.I.N.E. information, Role designation-C.P.R., defib, first aid box.
MODULE 4: SECONDARY SURVEY
▪ PRACTICAL: Secondary Survey, (Head-to-Toe):
MODULE 5: RECOVERY POSITION
▪ Review of Recovery Position Presentation Slides and Practical Demo

MODULE 6: WOUNDS, BLEEDS & FRACTURES
▪ Review of Bleeds Presentation Slides and Practical Demo
▪ PRACTICAL: Bleeds Treatment:
▪ Review of Bandages Presentation Slides and Practical Demo
▪ PRACTICAL: Bandages Treatment:
▪ Review of Slings Presentation Slides and Practical Demo
▪ PRACTICAL: Slings Treatment

MODULE 7: CHOKING, SHOCK & BURNS (INC CHEMICAL BURNS)
▪ Review of Choking Presentation Slides and Practical Demo using choking aid
▪ PRACTICAL: Choking
▪ Review of Shock Presentation Slides and Practical Demo Using Trainer Epipen
▪ PRACTICAL: Shock
▪ Review of Burns Presentation Slides and Practical Demo
▪ PRACTICAL: Burns:
□ Burns Treatment (cool, remove jewellery, dress) & how to Dress practical

Places are booked on a first come first served basis so to request a space please complete a booking form.

You will then receive an email with booking instructions accordingly.

NOTE: this training is to refresher first aider knowledge in between standard training courses and no certification of the training session will be granted.
