Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) – refresher training.

Refresher courses are available focussing on : -

- X-rays and sealed radioactive sources

- Radioactive materials – open sources

Brief descriptor

RPS’s must be suitably trained and competent to supervise local rules and radiation protection aspects of work with ionising radiation (Regulation 15, Ionising Radiations regulations 2017). Attendance on an approved RPS refresher course at 5 year intervals will meet this requirement.

Who is it for?

Anyone appointed to the role of RPS for work involving use of ionising radiation from X-rays and radioactive material, open or sealed sources and who needs refresher training.

What will the participant get out of this?

  • Refresh their understand about hazards and risks presented by ionising radiations.
  • Get updated about administrative arrangements and precautions which must be taken to ensure all exposures are kept ‘as low as reasonably practicable’.
  • Refresh their knowledge about radiation monitoring.
  • Share experiences about what to do in an incident situation.
  • Review what is required in an RPS role.

No

Any prior knowledge or experience required?

Attendees will be, or will have acted as RPS’s in the past, and will be familiar with work applications involving ionising radiation.
