For the past two years, we've had recent graduates from a wide range of degrees backgrounds and work experience including teaching, accounting, languages and more. Hear from our current trainees below to get an idea of the exciting roles that exist in Higher Education.
"The Ambitious Futures Graduate Scheme has given me a great chance to work across the university and build my network throughout a number of teams. I spent my first 6 months in Warwick’s Strategy and Policy group gaining experience in international student data and then moved onto a 6 moth secondment at Nottingham. There I worked in the Finance Development Team, assisting in the implementation of the new student finance system. I’ve now begun my final placement back at Warwick in WMG. Highlights of the scheme so far have been the huge variety of projects, interacting with people from all sorts of backgrounds (I’m Estonian!) and the opportunities I’ve had to develop my presentation and data analysis skills."
"A highlight of the AF programme for me has been the opportunity to travel and work outside of the walls of ‘the office’. At Warwick, I attended a number of conferences and events spanning from London to Leeds, and also Brussels. Whilst at the Open University, the nature of my placement led to me visiting OU National and Regional offices in Nottingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin. Working with a range of different people across the country in this way is something I have really valued as part of my AF experience. The overall breadth of the course has developed my communication and networking skills, and also given me an insight into the range of opportunities available within the HE sector."
"This scheme has been the perfect way to begin my career in Higher Education. The breadth of roles that are possible in HE is incredible and I've been fortunate enough to get involved in some really exciting areas. I spent my first 6 months in the Internationalisation Team where I managed a team of 12 student ambassadors, re-developed Warwick's Venice-site website and led 98 international students to Edinburgh for Warwick's first student coach trip to Scotland. I then spent my external placement at UAL in London where I created a suite of e-learning video tutorials which really allowed me to build both my creative and project management skills. I'm now back at Warwick working in the Strategy Group and am being exposed to a variety of high-level networks. So if you have a passion for Higher Education and like the sound of Ambitious Futures, go for it!"
"I always knew I wanted to work within the education sector. Ambitious Futures has allowed me to do so in ways I didn't know I could. Just weeks into my first placement on the scheme I am beginning to identify a vast amount of work areas that would suit me and am already learning so much while gaining an abundance of skills which will enable me to thrive as I move on to placement two and beyond."
