A guide to Microsoft OneDrive

Introduction

OneDrive is a cloud storage service that lets you store and access your files from anywhere. You can use OneDrive to back up your important files, sync them across your devices, and share them with others. OneDrive is part of Microsoft 365, which also includes apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

How to log into OneDrive

  • Go to https://webmail.warwick.ac.uk in your web browser.
  • Enter your University of Warwick user code in this format u1234567@live.warwick.ac.uk and click Next.
  • Enter your password and click Sign in.
  • Enter a multifactor-factor authentication code or approve a sign-in request on your phone.
  • Your account will open displaying your Outlook mailbox.
  • Click the Microsoft 365 App Launcher (located at the top left of the screen)
  • From the list of available Apps select OneDrive

You will then be logged into OneDrive on the web. You can see your files and folders on the left pane, and the details and preview of the selected item on the right pane.

How to get started with OneDrive

Once you are logged into OneDrive on the web, you can start using it to store, sync, and share your files.

Here are some basic tasks you can do with OneDrive on the web:

  • To upload a file or folder, click the Upload button on the top menu bar, and select a File or Folder. You can also drag and drop files or folders from your computer to the OneDrive webpage.

  • To create a new file or folder, click the New button on the top menu bar, and select the type of file or folder you want to create. You can create Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote files, or a new folder.

  • To edit a file, open it and click the Edit button on the top menu bar. You can edit files in the web browser, or in the desktop app if you have it installed.

  • To share a file or folder, select it and click the Share button on the top menu bar. You can share files or folders with specific people or create a link that anyone can use. You can also set permissions and expiry dates for the shared items.

  • To delete a file or folder, select it and click the Delete button on the top menu bar, or press the Delete key on your keyboard. You can also right-click on the item and select Delete. Deleted items go to the Recycle bin, where you can restore them or delete them permanently.
