Teaching for Learning Online

Teaching for Learning Online (TfLO) will introduce some of the theories and debates that underpin online education and guide participants through some practical steps to take teaching and learning online.

This course is self-directed and available any time.

LDCU Open Discussions

These sessions provide an opportunity to share experiences and ideas as well as ask questions and learn from each other. Everyone is welcome and you can drop in at any time during the 1 hour session. The weekly open discussions related to teaching and learning online now alternate between Wednesdays and Thursdays each week, please check the schedule below:

Creating accessible mathematical content

Tuesday 9th March 12:00-13:00

This workshop, led by Dr Martyn Parker (Statistics), will introduce methods for creating accessible mathematical content including:

  • Accessible file formats for mathematics content.
  • Creating AT-accessible Word documents.
  • Checking web mathematics, for example, Moodle content.
  • Working with Moodle equations.
  • Diagrams and AT-enabled software.
  • Handwriting and converting to electronic form using some AI-based technology.
  • Screen readers.
  • Transcripts.

For LaTeX users

  • Universal document converters
  • Using markdown to create output documents in multiple formats.
  • Accessible documents for those with colour vision deficiencies.

Creating accessible PDFs

Thursday 18th March 12:00-13:00

In this practical workshop, learn how to avoid common accessibility issues, create accessible PDFs and use automated tools to test your PDFs for accessibility. Please note, the demonstration will be on Windows. Please note, this demonstration will be on PowerPDF Advanced for Windows.

Wednesday 31st March 12:00-13:00

In this practical workshop, learn how to avoid common accessibility issues, create accessible PowerPoint presentation and use in-built tools to test your presentations. Please note, the demonstration will be on PowerPoint 365 for Windows.

TEALFest 2021

Monday 10th May - Friday 15th May

Following the successful inaugral TEALFest in May 2020, the LDCU is pleased to announce the second technology enhanced active learning (TEAL) festival.

TEALfest is an online festival for sharing technology enhanced active learning practice, research, ideas and experiences.

Throughout the week we will have a series of events from colleagues and guest speakers.
