Ultimately data owners are responsible for adequately protecting their data. They have several options depending on how important the data is, for example;

• Accepting the risk of loss should it happen.
• Making a second copy or snapshoting data (to protect against specific types of user failure).
• Running their own backup system.
• Using the ITS managed backup service.

Because hardware, software and user failures can take many forms; and because it may also occur over time; we recommend that multiple generations of data backups be maintained. This is the service we provide.
