Microsoft Office has been used by literally millions of users around the world, and has been the Office suite of choice at Warwick for several years. With any software, whenever a new version appears, the inevitable “Should we upgrade” question arises. Some software updates simply make superficial changes, but Office 2013 is a significant step in moving the Office suite forward into a future where cloud services are more paramount

What are these pages for?

These pages are not intended as an exhaustive guide to the changes Microsoft have made in their new Office suite; that task can be far better handled by Microsoft themseves. It is intended as a source of information regarding some of the more significant changes (see the tabs at the bottom of the page), along with information about installing Office 2013 on a Managed Windows 7 Desktop from 'Get More Apps....'

Background Compatibility?

Microsoft has maintained a degree of consistency with Office 2010. Both support the same file formats and use similar file extensions for backwards compatibility. Both versions use Ribbons at the top of the screen. Although Office 2013 contains a number of new features, Microsoft has essentially maintained the Ribbon layout that was used in the Office 2010. The majority of the Ribbon icons are located in the same places in Office 2013 that they were in Office 2010, although there are some new icons, and there are a few things that have been moved around, but those who are experienced with Office 2010 should not have much trouble locating the most common options in Office 2013
