Q:What does your job role involve at Warwick

A: I mostly work with student data – collaborating with the Programme Teams and other stakeholders to ensure the data is accurate, helping make improvements to our systems and processes, building efficiency and reducing manual input into the WBS student data systems.

Q: What made you choose your apprenticeship?

A: While I enjoy working with data, the thing I enjoy the most about work is the people side of things – collaborating with them to help them grow and develop. This passion is what helped inspire me to want to add coaching to my skillset.

Q:What is the best thing about doing an apprenticeship?

A: There is a very good level of support, both from the University and from the organisation delivering the qualification, The OCM.It’s also great that the place is funded, and that the work on the apprenticeship is to be done within working hours!

Q:What has your experience been of studying via an apprenticeship route

A: The learning material is very thorough, but the thing I enjoy the most is getting to deliver formal coaching sessions with clients.I really enjoy having a balance of the freedom to learn how to coach, while also having dependable supervision and support when I need it.

Q: What impact to you think your learning has made to your team and/or more widely to Warwick?

A: I use the skills I’m learning in coaching in my day-to-day role a lot more with my peers – it’s amazing how different a response I get from advising less and asking questions more, to help people to find answers within themselves, and becoming empowered by it.

Q: What difference to you think apprenticeships will make to your career?

A: This apprenticeship is broadening my skills, which is already helping me achieve more in my day-to-day work, and it will definitely open up opportunities for future job roles, and widen the possibilities of what I can achieve in my career.

It has changed the way I approach my day role, I advise less and ask questions more. This learning is enabling me to think about what I want to achieve in my career. I will be able to look back on my career and know I will have helped people grow and develop, understand themselves and face challenges in a different way.

Q: What advice would you give to others considering an apprenticeship or to a line manager considering this option for a new or existing staff members?

A: The apprenticeship needs to be the right fit for you – think about who you’d like to be at the end of it, and whether this apprenticeship will help you to get there. Learning through an apprenticeship route requires you to be self-driven but also gives you a freedom in how you learn.

For line managers – invest time out of your team member’s weekly hours to allow them to grow and develop. They will more than make the time back in the quality of delivery in their role, with your support.

Q:Any other comments

A: I’m very thankful to the University for investing in me, and for all the support they offer throughout the apprenticeship.
