Research Writing Retreat

Aim of the session:

The aim of the Research Writing Retreat is to provide participants with a dedicated space for structured writing time to progress writing projects in a supportive, focussed environment.

Participants are invited to bring along any kind of writing project they are currently working on, and a productive retreat will look different to everyone who attends, depending on what stage of the writing process they are.

The retreat begins by intention setting, identifying specific goals for the day. Each writing slot lasts for 45 minutes, with breaks to share progress, do some gentle stretching and explore strategies for academic writing.

What will I learn?

The programme will enable participants to:

  • Dedicate time and space to progressing a writing project.
  • Meet new colleagues in a mutually supportive environment.
  • Reflect upon own writing preferences and challenges, identifying strategies for addressing these.

Is it right for me?

This is aimed at researchers at all stages of their careers, in all disciplines, who need time and space to progress a writing project.

Less useful if…

This is less useful for those looking for coaching in academic writing or expecting instruction about academic publishing or a dedicated focus on academic writing techniques.

Learning Hours:

This course takes approximately 6.5 learning hours. This includes any pre-course/programme work, attendance at workshops, experiential (‘on-the’job’) learning, coaching and post-course/programme work.
