The aim of this session is to explore critical perspectives on two dimensions of the research ecosystem in depth; research funding and impact and engagement.

• Summarise key policy developments that have contributed to the current funding landscape in higher education
• Identify strategies for generating research income
• Critically evaluate different perspectives on the notion of ‘impact’ in research
• Identify strategies for extending the reach of, and audiences for, research outcomes.
