Research Active Staff (RAS): Leadership - Effective Collaboration for RAS Programme

Overview:

The Effective Collaboration for Research Active Staff (RAS) Programme is for staff on Research-focussed, Teaching-focussed and Research & Teaching contracts. The programme is designed for attendees to explore and develop their collaboration skills. The programme is a two-day experiential training course looking at the building blocks of the collaborative style of research; inclusive communication, cultural awareness, robust planning, negotiation and the ability to work effectively with others. The programme is to build skills and knowledge in order to have or be involved in effective and successful inter-disciplinary and/or inter-departmental and/or inter-institutional and/or national/international collaborations.

This two-day programme has been designed for up to 40 Research Active Staff (RAS) from different disciplines and career stages, led by a team of experienced facilitators who work with participants throughout the two days to support their learning. Facilitators are from a variety of backgrounds and sectors, with experience in collaboration.

This workshop is based on a successful Vitae workshop (Vitae programme was funded by the UK Research Councils) which has been adapted for Warwick RAS Staff.

There is no cost to Warwick Research Active Staff to attend this workshop

  • Different rules for different collaborations
  • Warwick support for collaborations

    Who should attend?

    University of Warwick Research Active Staff (staff on Research-focussed, Teaching-focussed and Research & Teaching focussed contracts) from any discipline or career stage (i.e. grade 5 to grade 9).

    Organisational Development do not accept applications from postgraduates or research students. Students should refer to the Student Opportunities (for Masters students) and Doctoral College (for PhD students) for workshops designed specifically to meet their needs.

     Workshop requirements:

    • You are able to attend on both dates (21 November 2019 and 28 November 2019)
    • Your Line Manager/PI/Supervisor/HoD supports your application and has signed your nomination form and/or sent a supporting email to researcherqueries@warwick.ac.uk.

     Workshop enables Research Active Staff (RAS) to:

    The programme offers the participants an opportunity to:

    • Explore collaboration both in theory and practice
    • Meet researchers from a variety of disciplines, backgrounds and career stages
    • Develop your understanding of collaboration theory and how to apply it in practice
    • Increased learning of collaborative bid development and the funding process
    • Take a few days out from research both physically and mentally, and have some space to consider the next steps in terms of collaborations.

     Further Information:

    • The Effective Collaboration for RAS Programme runs once per annum and in term 1.
    • The leadership programmes; (Effective Collaboration for RAS Programme, Preparing for Leadership & Leadership in Action) are standalone programmes, you can attend them concurrently or one a year or choose the one relevant to your needs.
    • The closing date for nomination submission is 7 November 2019. You will receive confirmation you have a place within a week of receipt of your application.
    • Information may be shared with a third party researcher to undertake the research and collate the information for impact reports.
    • Benefits / outputs are shared and/or included in the University of Warwick institutional Charter Marks e.g. Athena Swan or HR Excellence in Research.
