Frequently asked questions
What is happening with Eating at Warwick?
The technology that underpins the Eating at Warwick scheme has reached end of life so the scheme will be discontinued on 31 March 2021, having been in operation in its current format for over a decade and become outdated.
In January, we communicated that the Eating at Warwick scheme was ending on 31 July 2020. However, the deadline has been extended to 31 March 2021 following the closure of campus earlier this year due to the COVID pandemic.
Will you be replacing the Eating at Warwick scheme when it closes 31 March 2021?
There will be no immediate replacement from 31 March 2021. However, with the world changing around us due to COVID 19, and with more high-street brands coming onto campus, we recognise that this is a timely opportunity to identify a modern and more relevant solution that better meets the needs of our campus community and changing retail model.
We will also be using feedback gathered from the campus community in January to help shape a future initiative, after it was clear there was dissatisfaction with the current Eating at Warwick scheme. For example, users said that the current discount often doesn’t provide an incentive to spend more on campus, doesn’t reward loyalty/frequent purchases or can’t be used across all outlets on campus.
I still have credit on my Eating at Warwick account, what should I do now?
You will have until 31 March 2021 to use the remaining balance on your card to purchase food and drink at participating University owned cafes, bars and restaurants.
You can also use your balance to purchase food and drink at Rootes Grocery Store which stocks a large number of food to go, fresh produce, international food and every day essentials.
Alternatively, if you are unable to spend your Eating at Warwick balance on campus and would like to help change lives in the UK and worldwide, you can gift your balance to one of Warwick's charity programmes.
Can I still top up my account before 31 March 2021?
To help minimise the amount of credit that needs to be spent by 31 March 2021 when the current Eating at Warwick scheme ends, the functionality that allows users to top up their accounts was switched off on 31 October 2020.
However, all of our outlets accept a range of other cashless payment types including, credit/debit cards, Contactless and Apple/Android Pay to pay for food and drink.
What can I do I’m unable to visit campus as I’m working from home, on furlough or new COVID advice is telling me not to return to campus, so I can’t spend my balance?
Although we are advising everyone to spend their balance on campus where possible, should you wish to get a refund of your outstanding balance please complete the withdrawal form.
However, please note that due to the system limitations all refunds are processed manually so there may be a delay in processing your refund.
