The Environment and Sustainability Team works with students and staff across the University to raise awareness of the importance of acting responsibly to minimise our impact on the environment. The University has set targets to reduce all of our carbon emissions from the energy we buy and use to the items we purchase, from the waste we dispose of to the travel we undertake. Every individual has responsibility to play their part and we work hard to promote the many actions that we can all consider and implement.
Students with an interest in sustainability are encouraged to register to become Green Champions. You will receive our regular newsletters and become part of a network of likeminded individuals who can help to champion the cause amongst other students as well as academics and professional staff who you come across during your time at Warwick. You will also find out about any volunteer opportunities to support the work of the Team.
The Team are involved in many of the 20+ sustainability related societies run by the SU and encourage all societies, whatever their interest, to take part in the SU’s SocsMark initiative to assess their environmental impact and look for ways to improve.
A Cut the Flow competition is run in accommodation to recognise and reward those who are actively reducing their energy and water consumption. Prizes are awarded to the best performers. Students are encouraged to support the initiative as it will help you to prepare for living off campus when you will have to pay your own bills.
If you haven’t already done so we encourage all new and returning students to view our induction video to find out more about the importance of sustainability to the University community.
