What does a 2:1 mean?

I've been asked to provide a 2:1 or equivalent degree. What does this mean?

If you've been asked to provide a 2:1 equivalent degree, this is the standard UK grading system for degrees.

UK degrees are classified out of 100, and are:

  • 1st - 70 or above
  • 2:1 - 60 to 69
  • 2:2 - 50 to 59
  • 3rd - 40 to 49
