Discover Amanda's journey at Warwick and what led her to apply for the Masters in Global Media and Communication, studying with us from 2018-2019.

How did you find out about Warwick?

I was browsing for master courses that would enlighten me with a global perspective of communications. I found that the MA in Global Media and Communications offered by the Warwick University was exactly what I was looking for.

Did you consider applying anywhere else? What made you choose Warwick?

There were a few other universities in England and Scotland that were offering similar courses, which I also took into consideration. Most of my Brazilian friends who have studied in the UK went to universities in London. Since I wasn't considering those, I asked for references from British friends and they all confirmed that Warwick was a great choice.

The MA in Global Media and Communications at Warwick University covered all the areas that I was looking into studying. It offered a diverse environment where I would be able to discuss the global outlook of communications with my lecturers and classmates. These very specific courses in the area of communications are not as easy to find in other countries, hence the UK was the best choice for my master studies. In addition, I looked into University rankings and found out that the University of Warwick was Top 10 in the UK.

How did you find the application process?

The application process is very clear, therefore I did not encounter any difficulties. The Department of Media and Policy Studies was very helpful with the visa application.

How was your arrival?

I had received a lot of information by the time I arrived. I was able to organise myself to attend the most relevant events and activities during the welcome week. I was very impressed by how quickly I got everything sorted out, from getting my badge to meeting my course director, professors and class mates. I took advantage of many things that were being offered, from campus tours to the societies fair, although I did get lost on Campus quite a few times in the beginning (it's huge!). The MyWarwick App helped me a lot with all the information that I needed.

What is the best thing about studying at Warwick?

I love how easy I get things sorted out, the staff is there to help you solve every issue you may encounter. I really appreciate all the assistance and advice that I get, from personal tutors, to university advisors. Having spaces for post-grads, such as the PG Hub, is also a plus.

What is the worst thing?

I would love to have more affordable and diverse food options on campus.

How is your accommodation?

My accommodation is off-campus and although I took it independently, I did count with the support of a Warwick Accommodation Advisor to go through my contract.

Have you joined any clubs or societies?

I am a member of the Warwick Pole and Aerial Arts Society. I had been doing Pole and Aerials for a few years before I joined Warwick University and I was so happy to learn that Warwick had a very active Pole and Aerial Arts Society. The society is very organised and passionate, and I love taking lessons and doing activities with them. I have also been teaching aerial silks as a society member, which has been a very nice exchange experience.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

I hope to continue my career as a PR in international organisations.

What makes you happiest about being a student at Warwick?

The friends I made and the knowledge I gained here.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying at Warwick?

Go though the programme of your course of choice to know if you feel confident about it. Do not hesitate asking questions, they are always there to help you. Make use of all the assistance Warwick has to offer. Live close to campus, it saves a lot of your time. Join societies, there are so many at Warwick University, they will fulfil your year and in my experience, you can make lots of friends. In addition to being an excellent university, Warwick is a great choice if you are looking to have a campus life. Don't miss the food market at the piazza and enjoy sunny days in the green areas or by the lake.
