How did you find out about Warwick?

I heard about Warwick through league tables and rankings on QS. Additionally, a senior of mine was heading to Warwick to study Economics, and I was thus made aware of the institution.

Did you consider anywhere else? What made you choose to study with us?

I chose Warwick Law School due to its course structure. Modules like Gender and the law, practical advocacy, conflict of laws in a commercial context, and even Shakespeare and the law represented aspects of the degree I found natural interest in. These ‘law in context’ modules set Warwick apart from other law schools. The entire degree expounds on the international character of law.

How did it feel to be awarded a scholarship?

My initial response to the scholarship was stereotypical- I was happy beyond measure and couldn't wait to reveal the news to my parents and friends. I also felt immensely grateful to the university for relieving me of the financial burden that comes with university education. Additionally, I also felt the urge to give back to the university for their support.

Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?

I told my mother who was elated and refused to believe me for five minutes. When I showed her the email, she burst into tears! My father, a stoic, stuck to a formal 'Congratulations'. I am certain he was bursting with happiness on the inside.

How did you apply and did anyone help you with your application form and visa application?

I consulted an Warwick official agency, SIUK for my visa application. I faced absolutely no issues with the process, and my visa came in time.

How was your arrival? What were your first impressions of campus?

As someone from a crowded and noisy city, I was enchanted by the setting at Warwick. I moved into Lakeside halls of residence, surrounded by lush greenery and a tranquil lake, which provided the perfect atmosphere to reside in.

What is the best thing about studying at Warwick?

The best thing about Warwick is the faculty. They are truly experts in their field of the subject. The lecturers are incredible educators and explain several complicated aspects of the Law really well. The seminar tutors ensure deeper retention of the topics and are always available to discuss any doubts that I may have. My consistent emails usually get a response in a few hours and I am left with no uncertainties!

What was the worst thing?

Nothing, I have only been here a month and thus don't feel like something is necessarily bad. The pre-recorded lectures are not the best though, can't wait to switch to in-person teaching!

How have you found your accommodation?

I live in Lakeside, which has been perfect for me. The walk to central campus isn't too long, and it's much quieter and nicer here for someone who doesn't enjoy partying and goes to sleep super early! The infamous geese have not been as much of a problem to me as I anticipated.

The rooms are massive with a comfortable bed! It also has a bathtub which is perfect after a long day of work. My flatmates are incredibly kind and clean, and sometimes we all cook together as a bonding activity. My experience has been beyond amazing!

Have you joined any societies?

I am currently the Co-Head of external relations at the Warwick Congress. The Warwick Congress hosts a range of talks and panel discussions that are extremely engaging. Additionally, I have been attending some training sessions organised by the UN Society which have been incredible avenues as someone who did Model UN extensively!

What do you plan to do when you graduate?

I hope to get a master's in International law and look for work opportunities in the United Nations.

If you could give a piece of advice to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick what would it be?

Remember to be certain of your motivation to study the course. Also, note that showing and displaying your skills and abilities is better than simply mentioning them. As cliché as it sounds, be yourself! No one has the combination of skills and interests as you do, so remember to stick to your own experiences and don't try to be someone you're not. No one is a perfect student!

What one thing makes you happy about Warwick?

The conversations I have with people here. I have met a range of absolutely learned, intriguing and fascinating students. Speaking to different people about their course, future aspirations, and current interests help me learn something new every day. The range of conversations with those around me has been the best part of my first month at Warwick.
