Realising Opportunities Events: January - March Edition
Realising Opportunities Launch – 16th January
The Realising Opportunities Launch took place on Wednesday 16th January. We were very pleased to welcome 76 students and their parents as part of the programme this year. Realising Opportunities (RO) is a unique collaboration of 15 leading, research intensive universities, working together to promote fair access and social mobility of students from groups under-represented in higher education. The Programme provides students with skills and information to help them make informed decisions about their future and to raise their aspirations to progress to a leading research intensive university. It supports their academic progress in school/college and on successful completion gives students the opportunity to have their achievements recognised through UCAS, resulting in additional consideration and the potential for alternative offers from the RO universities.
Research Workshop – 20th and 21st February
We were delighted to welcome fifty Year 12 students who are taking part in the Realising Opportunities and the UniTracks access programmes to our Research Workshop in February. They attended a lecture by Johannes De Kam, our Foundation Studies tutor, on Research skills and the importance of referencing and took part in a group research project led by Warwick PhD students. We were all very impressed with the quality of the research and the ability of these students to adopt a researcher’s mindset.

Celebration event – 23rd February
Students who successfully took part in our Post-16 access programmes (Pathways to Law, UniTracks and Realising Opportunities) attended a celebration event on our campus with their parents on Saturday 23rd February. We are very proud of their achievements and wish them all the best when they enrol at the University of their choice next September.
Realising Opportunities – National Student Conference – 23rd February
The National Student Conference for the Realising Opportunities programme took place on Saturday 23rd February in Queen Mary London. The Outreach team and approximately 70 students on the RO programme met there with the fifteen partner universities, explored courses options and attended workshop on various aspects of higher education.
