The PGT Sanctuary Scholarship Application Form below is divided into 6 sections:

  1. About you (your personal details and contact information)
  2. Sanctuary eligibility (your immigration status and right to study)
  3. Education eligibility (your previous qualifications and Postgraduate Taught degree course choice)
  4. Referee details (contact details for your referee - this should be someone who knows you in a professional capacity, such as a tutor, lecturer, employer or solicitor)
  5. Required Attachments / Documents (evidence of your Sanctuary eligibility and right to study, your personal statement and your referee's supporting statement)

  6. Declaration

Please note that Postgraduate Taught Sanctuary Scholarships are available for up to 1 year of full-time study (2 years part-time) for the following Postgraduate Taught courses starting in September 2024:

In addition, the following courses are not eligible for the PGT Sanctuary Scholarship award:

  • Module based courses (courses not achieving 180 CATS over a 1 year full-time or 2 year part-time basis)
  • Distance Learning courses
  • Postgraduate courses leading to a Doctoral qualification (such as a PhD)

Section 1: About You


This is a 7-digit number – you should be able to find this on any correspondence from the University about your application. If you haven't applied for a Postgraduate Taught course at the University yet, please write 'TBC' and make sure to apply for a course as soon as you can after submitting your Sanctuary Scholarship application.

  • Postgraduate course list - please note that the Postgraduate Taught Sanctuary Scholarship is open to students who are applying for Postgraduate Taught degrees such as an MSc, MA, LLM, PGCE. It is not open to applicants for doctoral qualifications such as MPhil/PhDs, module-based courses or distance learning courses.

Section 2: Sanctuary Eligibility


The following question asks you about your current immigration status with the UK government. You will be asked to upload evidence of this status and evidence of your right to study at the bottom of this form.

Please note that applicants who are not eligible for UK Government Student Financial Support will be prioritised for the PGT Sanctuary Scholarships. Refugees are usually eligible for postgraduate financial support from the UK government (such as a Masters Loan). Section 3: Education Eligibility


What is the highest level of education you have achieved so far? (required)

Please note that Postgraduate Taught Sanctuary Scholarships are available for up to 1 year of full-time study (2 years part-time) and the following courses are not eligible:

  • Module based courses (courses not achieving 180 CATS over a 1 year full-time or 2 year part-time basis)
  • Distance Learning courses 
  • Postgraduate courses leading to a Doctoral qualification (such as a PhD or MPhil) - if you are interested in a Doctoral programme, you can find out more about Warwick's Sanctuary Scholarships for Doctoral study online here.

It is not possible to defer an Postgraduate Taught Sanctuary Scholarship award and this application form is only open to students who are planning to start their Postgraduate Taught course at Warwick in September 2024.

Section 4: Referee Details


Your referee should know you in a professional capacity, such as a tutor, lecturer, employer or solicitor, and should provide a supporting statement on your behalf. You should upload your referee's supporting statement in Section 5 below.

Section 5: Required Attachments / Documents

5.1: Sanctuary/Immigration eligibility documentation

To support your application, please prove that you meet the Sanctuary Eligibility criteria in Section 2 by uploading evidence of:

  • The immigration status you currently hold with the UK government

AND

  • Evidence of your right to study (if you do not think you currently have the right to study, or have 'no study' immigration bail conditions, please contact us at lifecycleteam@warwick.ac.uk for support).

Evidence could include copies of your ARCBRP, a Home Office Letter or a solicitor's letter. You can upload this evidence under Section 5 "Attach files" below.       


5.2: Personal Statement

Please attach your personal statement (under Section 5 "Attach files" below). Please tell us why we should choose you as a scholar by answering the following: 

1. In 200 words or less, please provide information about your academic and professional achievements to date, including qualifications, prizes and awards, relevant professional experience and extra-curricular activities.

2. In 400 words or less, comment on how your course of study will provide skills and knowledge that will enhance your career prospects in that area, as well as how you will contribute to the academic community and department.

3. Any information about your individual circumstances you wish to be considered in support of your application (200 words max.)


5.3: Referee's Supporting Statement

The Referee's Supporting Statement is an important part of the selection process. Your referee should know you in a professional capacity, such as a tutor/lecturer, employer or solicitor. The referee statement must be on letter headed paper and be signed and dated by your referee.

Please attach your referee's statement (under Section 5 "Attach files" below) of no more than 750 words. 

Your referee should include the following information:

1. The nature of the referee’s professional relationship to you and an indication of how long the referee has known you.

2. What are the applicant's personal and financial circumstances and what barriers have they overcome to continue their education?

3. How well suited is the applicant to the Postgraduate Taught course they plan to take and how realistic are the student's ambitions?

4. What contribution, to your knowledge, has the applicant made to their previous academic institutions and local community?

5. How do you think the student would benefit from the support offered by Warwick's PGT Sanctuary Scholarship?

6. Is there any other information that you consider is relevant to the student's application?
