6/7 December: no through route via University Road

NAIC Works: December update

There will be resurfacing work at several points on University Road over the weekend of Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 December 2014. To keep access to car parks open and buses running, University Road will have a one-way, one-lane system in place between the Sports Centre exit and the car park 15 exit.

All traffic will be diverted around Academic Loop Road, and will not be able to turn right out of the junction near car park 15, as depicted in our map. No traffic will be able to pass through the bend in University Road near University House.

This means that the only entrance for accessing car parks 6, 7, 8, 8a and 15 and the Warwick Arts Centre by car will be the new Arts Centre roundabout, and the only entrance for accessing car parks 9 and 10 will the Scarman roundabout. It also means that no buses will stop at the UR1 bus stop next to the Gatehouse on those days.

Enabling works nearing completion

Our enabling works around the National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC) construction site are nearing completion. Once done, the construction of the building can begin.

We're currently erecting hoardings around the site. Once they're in place, the shared pedestrian and cycle path from University House to University Road will be wider again, but please continue to take care as it will not be fully straight. Additionally, the area from University House to Milburn Hill Road will be wider to support pedestrians and cyclists. Thank you for your patience during this initial phase of the NAIC works.

The NAIC is a joint venture between WMG, Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors, and will receive Government research funding. It will be a centre for world-leading research on developing new automotive technologies aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and dependency on fossil fuels. It will create opportunities for applied academic research by our staff and students and become a focus for research by two major automotive companies with strong links to Coventry.

The building is due to open in late 2016.
