rawkus collection

RAWKUS is a project that aims to save food surplus from kitchens across campus when students leave halls at the end of term/year. Tonnes of food and other items have been saved from ending up in the bin and have been given to local charities and food banks. We have saved 10s of tonnes since it began!

This is only made possible by having volunteers willing to spend some time to help.

We are looking for volunteers who are available join this fantastic initiative, saving good food and other items from being wasted across the campus.

Visit our page to sign up for our next collections on July 29th and September 9th.

Food and Drink festival volunteers

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September

The Food and Drink Festival takes place in the Pump Room Gardens in Leamington Spa attracting over 25,000 people from the town and neighbouring cities.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to help out during the weekend with a variety of roles to facilitate the smooth running of the event. You may volunteer for 1 or 2 days for as many hours as you feel possible during the designated times.

Candidates will need to be friendly and helpful and ready to assist both in their designated roles and general ad hoc duties that may arise over the weekend – such as set up, pack up, tidying areas, customer surveys.

You will need to make your own way to the event – either by public transport (buses and train links between Leamington and Coventry are very good) or driving.

As well as the experience of taking part in a fantastic 2 day event – one of the biggest in the Leamington calendar - we will say thank you to our volunteers with a Food Voucher that can be redeemed at the event on the day you volunteer.

The sessions are up to 90 minutes long. You will be away from the University for approximately 3 hours.

We hope to run sessions on Wednesday afternoons through the summer period once per month or more frequently if enough students are available. First date is 21st June 2023.

Design & Make

Tuesday 11th July: 8.00am- 6 pm

The Junction Building

The MAN Group’s Design & Make Challenge is back and bigger than ever with the intention of inspiring up to fifty Year 11 & Year 12 students to consider a career in engineering, manufacturing and technology.

The concept is simple; one day, one brief, but many possible outcomes. Students are challenged with designing and making a mechanical device (details revealed on the day) using just basic tools and materials. They’re offered support from apprentices and engineers from the eight MAN companies and encouraged to develop their ideas through trial and analysis. The devices are then tested by a suitably qualified panel of engineers, with prizes awarded to the schools under three different categories – Efficiency, Innovation and Manufacturing.

Twenty local schools battle against one another in teams of four to design and make a vehicle in one day.

We are looking for volunteers to steward from carparks, welcome people and be generally helpful to all our guests. We will supply each volunteer with a Warwick innovation District T-Shirt, snacks/lunch and drinks and for those working more than a couple of hours, we will organise a rota for breaks.

For more information and to sign up, email eilis.newman@warwick.ac.uk
