New Assistant/Associate Professor Post in Theoretical Computer Science

Warwick

The Department of Computer Science and the Centre for Discrete Mathematics and its Applications (DIMAP) at the University of Warwick invite applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Theoretical Computer Science, in the area of Algorithms and Complexity, or in related area.

This Position. We are looking for exceptional candidates with an internationally renowned research profile and demonstrated academic leadership. Ideal applicants will have a strong research program along with a track record of publications at top conferences in Theoretical Computer Science, a dedication to teaching, and a proven track record or strong potential for securing research funding and mentoring students and early-career researchers.

This is a permanent position based in a world leading Department of Computer Science and the position is thought to enhance the activities in the Division of Theory and Foundations (FoCS) and in the DIMAP center. The successful applicant is expected to teach courses in computer science, conduct research in their field of expertise and actively participate in other Computer Science, FoCS, DIMAP, and university activities.

Preference will be given to outstanding researchers with an independent research agenda who will complement existing strengths in the Division of Theory and Foundations of the Department of Computer Science and DIMAP.

Applications will be considered on their merits, on the basis of the research excellence of the candidates. The Department of Computer Science is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion among their staff and students, and candidates of underrepresented groups are particularly welcome to apply.

Relevant areas of interest in Theoretical Computer Science include, but are not limited to, design and analysis of algorithms and data structures, computational complexity, discrete mathematics, combinatorics, and graph theory.

The University of Warwick. Warwick is recognised as one of the leading research centres in these areas worldwide and we aim to attract top talent to an ambitious, creative and collaborative environment. As a testament to the excellence of the group, research produced at Warwick over the last few years has received best paper awards at several top theory conferences including STOC, ICALP, and SODA. Our members have been awarded 8 ERC grants and several prestigious UK fellowships (e.g., UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship and Royal Society University Research Fellowship). We are also highly active in the organisation of seminars, workshops, and conferences (see, e.g., WACT, CCC, DIMAP Seminar, Combinatorics Seminar, Foundations of AI Seminar, Warwick Quantum, Complexity Network, and the Online Complexity Seminar.

In addition to joining one of the leading and most vibrant groups in Algorithms & Complexity in Europe (see, e.g., CSRankings), you will be a member of the Centre for Discrete Mathematics and its Applications (DIMAP) and have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers from the Warwick Mathematics Institute.

The University of Warwick is consistently ranked in the top tier of UK’s research-intensive universities and the Department of Computer Science is traditionally ranked among top UK departments. In particular, in the 2014 REF (Research Excellence Framework) exercise, the Department of Computer Science has been ranked #2 in the UK and #1 in research outputs, and in the most recent 2021 REF the department has been ranked #4 in the UK.

Application. Applicants should submit their applications online as described on the official advert page. Namely, together with a completed application form, candidates should submit a Curriculum Vitae which includes a list of publications.
