An Introduction to AI for Humanities Researchers

About this session

Date: April 2025

Presenters: Dr Robert O'Toole & AI Lilly (from Eleven LabsLink opens in a new window)

Main follow-up contact: Robert O'Toole

Overview: In this special edition of the DAHL Shorts, requested by the History Department but of interest to all staff and students in the Arts Faculty, Robert explores how AI works (with just enough technical detail), and how we can use that knowledge to make good judgements about when and how to use AI (or not). Examples considered include: Gale Digital Scholar (tools for analysing text archives); Transkribus (for transcribing manuscripts); ElevenLabs text to voice.
